Cold Days - Jim Butcher Several points:
1) very entertaining, Butcher has done an excellent job of imagining a world of magical realities
2) those who recommend reading the series from the beginning have my vote. The impressive continuity and consistency of the imagined world shows up this way, as does the growth in the character of Harry Dresden
3) and yes, this is imaginative fantasy, and I find that I have to read the first 100 pages to slip back into suspension of disbelief to completely enjoy the story, so if you try it, and at first are stymied by the depth of the fantasy, you may be well advised to read on.
