An astonishing book, its language and style are hypnotic, ironically hypnosis is referred to over and over again as an explanation used by by the citizens in the novel who refuse to admit the possibility of what they are experiencing, and so did I. Powerfully evocative of a period and culture, at turns serious, sarcastic, astonishingly funny, and always illuminating. A wonderful book.
I am looking forward to reading it again!
