Another very entertaining Sandford novel featuring Lucas Davenport. The various characters are like the ensemble supporting cast in a well developed and long running TV drama, resulting in a rich story. One slightly discordant note, Lucas maintains an attitude of reserve and skepticism throughout the process of investigating these political and criminal activities, but decides on the probable guilt of a friend on a very intuitive and circumstantial basis. Somewhat surprising after withholding judgement on the main case for so much of the story. Lucas' pragmatic approach to dealing with criminal activity is interesting in itself. The story is an engaging and fast paced read, good fun, although the realpolitik view of politics and government is sobering and seems very realistic.
