A Thousand Pardons: A Novel - Jonathan Dee Short, deceptively simple, a fabulous book in the sense of being an enjoyable fable. The contrast between the remarkable success of the wife and mother, landing on her feet and supporting her daughter, while at the same time losing complete touch with her daughter's life. Meanwhile the disgraced father succeeds in staying in touch with his daughter even as he spends time in rehab and in jail. The contrast between the wife's performance at a professional level and at a personal level is remarkably analogous to that of her disgraced husband. As I got to the last few pages of the book I was anxious for a comfortable tying together of the several threads, and the actual ending was very satisfactory in remarkably leaving my anxieties in place.

A remarkable book.
